Biography

Maher Sharafeddine:

A Syrian poet, thinker, writer and historian, born in As-Suwayda, southern Syria in 1977.
He has authored approximately thirty books spanning poetry, narrative prose, literary criticism, history, and philosophy.
His works enjoy wide circulation, and his writings have had a significant impact on the public.
He opposed the Assad regime from an early age, facing persecution and imprisonment as a result.
He was granted asylum in the United States in 2008.
Following the fall of the Assad regime, he returned to Syria after a 23-year absence and was welcomed by thousands of people in Al-Karama Square in the city of As-Suwayda.
Today, he is considered a staunch opponent of the new Islamist regime in Syria—viewing it as a terrorist regime—particularly following the campaign of extermination it carried out against the Druze in July 2025.
